The Rehab Physio Cup – Fundraising for Rehab for Spinal Cord Injuries

On the evening of Thursday 16th May, The Rehab Physio is hosting a charity football match at Tranmere Rover’s home ground, Prenton Park to raise money for people with life-changing spinal cord injuries so that they can access the essential neurological rehabilitation treatment that they need to improve their quality of life.

Timed to take place during the week of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day (13th May), the event is the result of a partnership between The Rehab Physio, The Rooprai Spinal Trust (RST) and Fletchers Solicitors, aimed at creating opportunities for people who don’t have the financial support to explore their true rehabilitation potential.

Meet Our Partners

The Rehab Physio has been working with The Rooprai Spinal Trust since 2022, a charity which was inspired by Marrianne Rooprai after she was paralysed from the shoulders down in a car accident in 2004. Together The Rehab Physio and RST are able to offer funded rehabilitation placements to people with spinal cord injuries, followed by ongoing support with physiotherapy sessions and gym memberships.

Sponsors of the event, Fletchers Solicitors specialises in serious personal injury claims, handling complex cases involving spinal cord injuries, amputation and traumatic brain injuries. Their contribution to the football match, and previous sponsored rehab programmes, aims to make a huge impact to the lives of spinal cord injury patients.

What does funded neuro rehab placements mean for spinal cord injury patients?

The benefits, both physical and mental, of rehab post spinal cord injury are extensive. Neuro physio can help with spasticity (muscle stiffness), chronic pain and weight gain as well as preventing bone density deterioration and muscle wastage. Physically active patients with spinal cord injuries also reduce the risk of secondary issues such as respiratory illnesses, pressure sores and urinary tract infections.

In addition, there are also huge phycological gains to be made by spinal cord injury patients, from setting goals and seeing progress during their rehab sessions.

How does your donation help?

Unfortunately, the cost associated with long-term rehabilitation is a massive hurdle for many people. By making a donation, you’re helping more people with life-changing spinal cord injuries to access the appropriate rehabilitation that they need to achieve the best outcomes possible.

The easiest way is to make a donation on our Just Giving page but you can also make donations on the evening of the match.

The Event

The event commences at 5.30pm, with a football match kicking off at 6.00pm between team members, colleagues and friends of The Rehab Physio, RST and Fletchers, followed by an awards presentation, games and drinks in Aldo’s Bar. Attendees will have the opportunity to find out more about how the sponsored rehab programmes work and meet team members of the three organisations in an informal setting.
