DMOs may be useful in treating:
- Cerebral palsy
- Stroke- foot drop/ shoulder subluxation
- Multiple sclerosis
- Muscular dystrophy
- Spinal injury
- Traumatic brain injury
DMOs often produce good results by giving sensory feedback to the body, and by helping improve postural control for patients with cerebral palsy. A DMO suit can help moderate neurological tone to improve head control. This makes it easier to use their eye-gaze computer, or even to tolerate an upright position for eating. It can also help reduce involuntary athetoid movements.
There are more types of garments which may also be beneficial, and our physiotherapists can advise on these, eg:
- Body suits
- Leggings and shorts
- Socks
- Gloves
- Vests
