Liam Wins Apprentice of the Year Award!

We’re delighted to announce that our Physiotherapy Assistant, Liam Lancaster-Smith has been named Apprentice of the Year at Wirral Met College’s Further Education Student Awards.

The awards celebrate the achievements of exceptional students who have excelled during their studies, each nominated by the teaching staff at Wirral Met.

Liam has been studying for a one-year Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship with a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support and Care Certificate. Passing the apprenticeship qualification, combined with Liam’s work experience at The Rehab Physio has enabled him to apply for a BSc hons degree apprenticeship scheme in Physiotherapy at Salford University.

Liam, who is 27, has been part of the team at The Rehab Physio since February 2022. Before joining he spent 6 years in the army, two years working in social care and a year working in a school for children and adolescents with additional needs.

Liam comments: “It’s great to have been recognised for all my hard work over the last year and I’d like to thank both the teaching staff at Wirral Met but also the team at The Rehab Physio for believing in me and supporting me during my studies. I’m looking forward to a career as a neurological physiotherapist, working at the cutting edge of rehabilitation technology and techniques.

When I left the army, I found it challenging to find my place in the world but since joining The Rehab Physio, I have been encouraged to progress in a profession which I never thought would be possible, and for that I’m extremely grateful!”

Liam attended Wirral Met’s Celebration of Achievement on Thursday 6th July at the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton where family, friends, students, teachers and employers had the opportunity to see him being presented with his award.

Congratulations to Liam. The sky’s the limit!
