Highlighting Past Successes

Our previous charity matches have been monumental successes, raising significant funds for spinal injury support. In 2019, our event raised funds for Headway Wirral, while the 2023 and 2024 matches supported The Rooprai Spinal Trust.

The enthusiasm and generosity of our community have been vital in these efforts. Each event has drawn hundreds of local participants and spectators, eager to contribute to these worthy causes.

These past events set a precedent for impactful fundraising and community involvement. Explore more about our past successes on Birkenhead.news.

2019 was the year it all began. Paul Philpotts, Chris’s brother-in-law and lifelong Tranmere fan captained his team to a victory on penalties, following a thrilling comeback in a 4-4 draw. Stephen Paterson slotted home the winning penalty after Chris had hit the post with his effort! Headway Wirral were the winners on the day though, taking home one and a half thousand pounds.

2020 saw Covid restrictions lead to a cancellation of the event. This did not stop our amazing spirit, though. Through the power of technology, The Rehab Physio with their amazing footballing friends, produced a keepy-uppies for Claire House video and raised over 500 pound for the charity. After a slow return to normality, The Rehab Physio Cup returned to action in 2023. This was the first year The Rooprai Spinal Trust were the charity to benefit from the event. They have been ever since. 2023 saw Chris’s revenge over his brother-in-law in a 2-0 win, with Danny Cowle and Robbie Ryan getting on the scoresheet, leading to a win for team Wynne on a beautiful sunny Saturday.

Last year 2024, saw the most dramatic game to date on a rainy Thursday night. 5-1 up after 40 minutes, Team Wynne looked to be cruising to a comfortable victory against Team Philpotts. After 90 minutes the game was tied at 5-5. This was in no small part due to the Man of The Match performance from Michael Corran as well as a brace of goals by Tom Smith. Team Wynne managed to win the penalty shootout, scoring all of their efforts including a cool finish from Ste Donigan.
