“Dad has come on leaps and bounds as a result of his sessions with the intensive rehabilitation technology and equipment at The Rehab Physio. The team’s compassion and commitment, combined with their total determination for their patients to achieve their maximum recovery potential has been a driving force in getting Dad to where he is now.”
Derek’s Condition
Derek was 59 when he had a massive stroke following a triple bypass operation. He was transferred to the Stroke Unit of his local hospital, with a plan to continue his recovery at a specialist rehabilitation unit. However, because Derek failed to reach the rehabilitation goals set by the local hospital, the move was not achievable.
The prognosis was that Derek would not make any meaningful recovery and would need 24-hour care. His family were forced into making the heart-breaking decision to transfer Derek to a nursing home. The NHS withdrew his physiotherapy sessions as he was not responding and he was not able to work on his rehabilitation in the nursing home.
Our Treatment
During research, the family discovered The Rehab Physio and a member of the team assessed Derek in the nursing home. It was immediately evident that he had movement in both legs so there was potential for him to make much more progress.
Derek was in the home for a further three months and Tom from The Rehab Physio team visited him twice a week to work on his rehabilitation. With Derek’s determination and Tom’s expertise, Derek’s progress continued, and he was able to return home and access The Rehab Physio’s specialist intensive rehabilitation technology centre.
With the help of a walker, Derek is now much more mobile and the aim is to continue his rehabilitation with The Rehab Physio’s team so that he can spend more time with his grandchildren and enjoy his retirement.
